SpicyChat Alternative: No Adverts, Real Memory, No Queue
Adverts, a queue and memory that lasts about twenty messages. What the SpicyChat free tier and plans actually give you, and where RolePlaya is different.
SpicyChat is one of the biggest adult AI chat platforms for good reasons, and this page says what it does well. But its free tier and its memory work very differently from how they look on the sign-up page, and the September 2026 price rise made the gap wider.
What SpicyChat does well
Credit where it is due. SpicyChat has an enormous community character library, it permits adult content, and its free tier is generous on volume: users report a daily cap of around 2,000 messages, which most people never reach. If raw message count on a free account is the only thing that matters to you, SpicyChat wins that comparison and nothing here changes it.
Its cheapest paid plan is also cheap. Get A Taste removes the adverts and the queue for $5.95 a month.
The catch is memory
On the free plan and on Get A Taste, SpicyChat characters work with about 4,000 tokens of memory. In practice that is roughly the last twenty messages. Anything older drops out of the conversation, which is why long SpicyChat stories drift, characters forget names and promises, and plot threads from an hour ago quietly vanish.
Replies are short on those plans too, capped at around 180 tokens, which is a few sentences. For quick chats that is fine. For long-form roleplay it means the AI is always writing small and forgetting fast.
More memory costs more. True Supporter doubles it to about 8,000 tokens at $19.95 a month, and I'm All In goes up to 32,000 on some models at $29.95. Those prices went up on 8 September 2026.
Adverts and the queue
The free tier shows adverts, and at busy times free users can be put in a queue before a reply arrives. Paying removes both, which is reasonable. It does mean the free experience is built to push you towards paying, rather than being a complete product in its own right.
How RolePlaya is different
- No adverts on any tier. Not on paid plans and not on the free one. Nothing interrupts a scene to sell you something.
- Memory that lasts. Characters keep track of the 40 earlier messages on the free tier, 100 on Bit of a Playa and the whole conversation on Total Playa. Enhanced Permanent Memory, also on Total Playa, means characters remember facts from earlier conversations, not just the last twenty messages. You can see, edit and delete what they remember.
- Worlds and Multi Playa. Several characters in one scene, and shared settings where each character remembers what happened with the others.

Who should stay on SpicyChat
If you mostly have short chats, never notice the memory, and want the largest free message allowance available, stay. It is a solid platform for that.

Does RolePlaya allow NSFW content?
Yes. RolePlaya is adults only and permits adult content. Its rules prohibit minors as users or as characters.
Can I move my SpicyChat characters to RolePlaya?
If you have the character as a PNG or JSON card, it imports directly. Otherwise, copy the definition text into the character creator by hand.
Is RolePlaya cheaper than SpicyChat?
At the top end, yes. Total Playa is $19.99 a month against $29.95 for SpicyChat's I'm All In. SpicyChat's entry plan is cheaper at $5.95, but keeps the same short memory as the free tier.
