Fair question, and a sensible one to ask about any site that wants you to sign up. Here is what RolePlaya is, who runs it, what it collects, how payments work and where the limits are, with nothing left for you to take on trust.
The short answer
RolePlaya is a real, working platform that has been open since July 2025 and has more than 39,000 registered users as of October 2026. You can start without a card, card payments go to a payment processor rather than to us, and the rules about who can use it are written down below. It is also an adults-only AI roleplay site, so use your own judgement about whether that is for you.
Who runs it
RolePlaya is built and run by Captain, who was the number one creator on PolyBuzz with close to a thousand characters and over 588 million messages before leaving. Who can use it
RolePlaya is an 18+ platform only. Chats can be flirty, romantic and mature between adult characters. Images never contain nudity or pornography. Nothing involving minors.

What happens to your chats
Chats are stored so characters can remember you, and your messages are processed by AI providers to write the replies. Staff can access conversation content in three situations: automated checks for content that breaks the hard rules, a moderator reviewing something that has been reported, and an administrator investigating abuse, a billing dispute or a fault you reported. The privacy policy states that RolePlaya does not sell personal information.

Why there is no app store listing
RolePlaya is a website that you can install to your phone's home screen, and there is an Android download direct from the site. It is not listed in the Apple or Google stores, so nothing appears in your store purchase history. That is a choice about privacy, not a sign anything is missing.
Why a scam checker might score a new site low
Automated scam checkers lean heavily on how old a domain is and on what their crawler can see. RolePlaya is new, and part of the site sits behind an age check that crawlers cannot pass. A low score from a tool like that reflects those two things. It is not a record of anything that happened to a member.
